Celebrating Our 2024 ADVOCAP Volunteer Service Award Recipients

updated May 12, 2025

Each year, ADVOCAP honors volunteers whose dedication strengthens our communities and empowers individuals and families working toward self-sufficiency. This year, we’re proud to celebrate three outstanding individuals — Kathy Koepsell, Gloria Lichtfuss, and Michael Abraham — whose generosity and service embody the very best of what it means to give back.

Fond du Lac County: Kathy Koepsell
Kathy Koepsell has been a pillar of the Fond du Lac community for nearly 30 years. Her volunteer work spans numerous causes, from supporting food programs like Loaves & Fishes and Blessed Bites to serving seniors through Woodland’s Nursing Home. One of her most meaningful contributions is the creation of the Holy Family Widows Group in 2022, which provides comfort and connection for women navigating life after loss. Kathy’s involvement in organizations such as St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Family prison ministry, and countless donation drives highlights her commitment to uplifting those in need. Her selfless approach to service makes her a cherished community role model.

Green Lake County: Gloria Lichtfuss
Gloria Lichtfuss has been a dedicated advocate for the Green Lake community since 2012. After retiring from her role as Volunteer Coordinator for the Elderly Nutrition Program, Gloria continued serving through the Green Lake Food Pantry, where she ensures all guests are welcomed with dignity. She and her husband personally deliver food to homebound individuals, and she brings comfort to isolated seniors through weekly visits — often with her dog in tow. Gloria also plays a key role in program development through the Nutrition Advisory Council, ADVOCAP’s RSVP Committee, and as a member of the ADVOCAP Advisory Board. Her compassion, leadership, and tireless efforts have left a lasting imprint on her community.

Winnebago County: Michael Abraham
Michael Abraham has turned driving into a powerful act of service. Since joining ADVOCAP’s volunteer driver program, he has provided over 600 hours and driven nearly 16,000 miles to ensure individuals can access medical care, work, groceries, and even Special Olympics events. He’s known for never turning down a request, whether it’s early morning or late at night. Michael’s motto, “Just stack them up like cordwood!” reflects both his humor and his unmatched dedication. His efforts have significantly reduced the number of unmet ride requests in Winnebago County and has been praised by the Winnebago County ADRC.

We are grateful to Kathy, Gloria, and Michael for their service to our communities. Their stories inspire us all to find ways to make a positive impact. Congratulations to our 2024 Volunteer Service Award recipients!
