ADVOCAP Receives WHEDA Grant to Support Safe, Healthy Housing for Oshkosh Family

January 5, 2026

ADVOCAP is grateful to be among the Wisconsin organizations selected to receive funding through the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) Foundation’s 2025 Housing Grant Program. Governor Tony Evers and WHEDA recently announced $2 million in grants to 59 organizations statewide, supporting improvements to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and extremely low-income housing.

As part of this statewide investment, ADVOCAP received $27,794 to support the rehabilitation of a single-family home in Oshkosh. This work will help ensure a safe, healthy living environment for a local family and strengthen the long-term stability of the property and the surrounding neighborhood.

The project focuses on essential health and safety improvements, including:

  • Removing lead hazards
  • Replacing siding and windows
  • Installing new flooring and replacing exterior doors
  • Converting an existing office/former common room into a bedroom to better accommodate a larger household

These updates address needed repairs that impact the family’s day-to-day well-being, ensuring the home is structurally sound and free of environmental hazards. Beyond the benefits to the residents, these improvements also contribute to a stronger neighborhood by preserving and enhancing existing housing.

In his formal announcement, Governor Evers emphasized the importance of safe, stable housing, noting that the WHEDA grants help create “safer spaces for Wisconsinites who are unhoused, at risk, and striving to overcome challenges.” WHEDA CEO Elmer Moore Jr. highlighted that when communities invest in their most vulnerable neighbors, “the entire community and state become stronger.”

WHEDA’s 2025 Housing Grant Program will support more than 1,500 beds and housing units across 27 counties, addressing needs ranging from accessibility upgrades to major repairs. More than 100 organizations applied for this year’s grants — emphasizing the ongoing need for safe, affordable housing options throughout Wisconsin.

We’re grateful for WHEDA’s support and look forward to completing this rehabilitation project so a local family can continue building stability in a safe, healthy home. Read more about the grant and recipients in the official announcement here.
