ADVOCAP Foster Grandparent Volunteer Receives Governor’s Service Award

updated May 15, 2025

ADVOCAP is proud to share that Harriet Edwards, a volunteer with our Foster Grandparent Program, was honored with the AmeriCorps Seniors Lifetime Impact Volunteer Award at the 2025 Governor’s Service Awards. This prestigious recognition celebrates individuals who have made a lasting difference through decades of volunteer service in Wisconsin communities.

Harriet has been a compassionate and consistent presence in the lives of children in Fond du Lac, offering not only academic support but also mentorship and warmth that leaves a lasting impact. Her commitment to helping young learners thrive represents the very heart of national service.

Hosted by Serve Wisconsin, the Governor’s Service Awards recognize outstanding volunteers, AmeriCorps members, and service programs addressing critical needs across the state. This year’s ceremony, held at Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison on May 15, celebrated 12 individuals and one organization, along with 33 AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who reached 20 years of service — including Harriet.

Governor Tony Evers congratulated honorees, saying, “I’m incredibly grateful for the work that you do… Whether it’s helping communities in need, cleaning up and protecting our natural spaces, or supporting veterans and their families, the work AmeriCorps does makes a difference.”

Jeanne Duffy, Executive Director of Serve Wisconsin, added, “The honorees we recognize today represent the very best of Wisconsin—people who give of themselves, who uplift others, and who remind us of the power of compassion in action.”

ADVOCAP is deeply grateful for our volunteers like Harriet and the difference they make through their service.
