ADVOCAP is proud to congratulate volunteer driver Michael Abraham, who was recently honored as one of Wisconsin’s 2026 AmeriCorps Seniors Volunteers of the Year at the Governor’s Service Awards.
Hosted annually by Serve Wisconsin, the Governor’s Service Awards recognize volunteers whose dedication makes a lasting impact in communities across the state. This year’s ceremony celebrated individuals and organizations whose service helps address critical community needs throughout Wisconsin.
Through the ADVOCAP Transportation Program, Michael has volunteered more than 1,500 hours and driven over 41,000 miles, helping ensure participants can get to essential appointments and destinations in the community. His willingness to say, “Anything I can do to help,” has made him a reliable presence for riders and has helped reduce unmet transportation needs in Winnebago County. He consistently goes above and beyond, accepting early-morning, late-night, and last-minute rides, filling gaps when no other drivers are available.
Michael’s impact reflects the important role ADVOCAP’s volunteer drivers play in meeting transportation needs across Winnebago County. In 2025, ADVOCAP’s Volunteer Transportation Program provided more than 3,600 rides for individuals referred through the Winnebago County ADRC and Veteran Services. These rides help residents maintain their independence and access destinations such as medical care, employment, grocery shopping, and other community activities.
The Transportation Program is one of several opportunities available through ADVOCAP Volunteer Services, which supports communities across Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties. Through the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Foster Grandparent, Senior Friends, and Volunteer Transportation, volunteers help children succeed in school, reduce social isolation among older adults, support local organizations, and increase independence for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
In 2025, 372 volunteers contributed 88,068 hours through ADVOCAP Volunteer Services, representing more than $3 million in volunteer service to communities across the tri-county area.
ADVOCAP extends its congratulations to Michael and to all of this year’s Governor’s Service Award recipients. Thank you for your service and for making a difference in communities across Wisconsin.
