Celebrating Our 2024 ADVOCAP Community Service Award Recipients

updated May 14, 2025

Every year, ADVOCAP recognizes organizations that go above and beyond in supporting our mission of creating opportunities and removing barriers to self-sufficiency. This year’s Community Service Award recipients exemplify that spirit across Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties. We are proud to shine a spotlight on the impact of Loaves & Fishes (Fond du Lac County), Green Lake County Health Department (Green Lake County), and Wisconsin Warmers (Winnebago County).

Fond du Lac County: Loaves & Fishes
Since 1982, Loaves & Fishes has been a vital source of nourishment and community for thousands of individuals and families in need. Serving over 30,000 meals annually, the organization welcomes anyone who comes to the door, no questions asked.

What sets Loaves & Fishes apart is not just the volume of meals served, but the heart behind them. Volunteers from local churches, organizations, and other groups provide both traditional sit-down dinners and carryout meals on Mondays and Wednesdays, ensuring that food and companionship are available for those in need. Their long-standing commitment to providing nutrition, connection, and dignity makes them a cornerstone of Fond du Lac’s care network.

Green Lake County: Green Lake County Health Department
A crucial partner for our Head Start Prairie View Center, the Green Lake County Health Department has demonstrated great leadership in public health access. This year, they reinstated their blood lead testing program to ensure early detection and prevention for children in our care — an essential step in supporting healthy childhood development.

They also helped secure funding to kick-start our Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE) program. This initiative introduces young children to gardening and fresh food through hands-on learning, addressing both nutrition and educational needs. Their work is a testament to how health and education go hand in hand in building stronger futures.

Winnebago County: Wisconsin Warmers
At the Oshkosh Seniors Center, a vibrant group of 30 volunteers known as Wisconsin Warmers creates beautiful handmade items that bring warmth and comfort to those in need. From quilts and scarves to book bags and stockings, their donations go to local schools, hospitals, group homes, and other nonprofits.

The group is more than a volunteer network — they’re a close-knit community, sharing not just supplies and skills but stories, laughter, and care. Their quiet, consistent work is a reminder that small acts of kindness, when stitched together, can have great impacts in our communities. If you’re interested in helping the warmers, you can contact Cheryl Klemmer at (920)-216-6246 or chklemmer@charter.net.

Thank you to the 2024 Community Service Award recipients for the work they do to strengthen our communities and support our neighbors.
