As part of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced new funding for its Diaper Distribution Demonstration and Research Pilot. The Wisconsin Community Action Program Association (WISCAP) has been awarded $1.2 million to help families access diapers and related support services.
The funding supports seven new grant recipients across six states and one tribal nation, as well as supplemental awards for 13 previous recipients. These programs provide diapers along with additional resources such as job training, educational support, housing assistance, and nutrition services to help families thrive.
“Diapers can be costly; no caregiver should have to choose between buying diapers and paying for food,” said ACF Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Jeff Hild (HHS, 2025). HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra emphasized that providing diapers strengthens “the overall health and economic security of the entire family” (HHS, 2025).
Since September 2022, the Diaper Distribution Pilot has grown to serve 24 states and four tribal communities, helping families reduce economic stress and support children’s health and caregivers’ well-being.
