Weatherization Program

Why Weatherize?

ADVOCAP's weatherization services help to reduce energy costs and conserve energy. Program participants may save money through reduced energy consumption. Homes are made warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, thanks to weatherization services.


Eligibility

Both renters and homeowners may be eligible for this program. Persons living in a house, mobile home, duplex, or apartment building, may qualify for weatherization services. You must have received help with utility bills during the last year from the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP), to be eligible for weatherization services. If you have not received Energy Assistance and you need to apply call 1-800-506-5596 to set up an appointment.

Households with income which does not exceed 60% of the current State Median income levels may also be eligible for weatherization services. Households with at least one resident receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may also be eligible for weatherization services.  Contact ADVOCAP for current eligibility guidelines.

Weatherization services are offered at no cost to qualifying homeowners. Services offered to renters may require a 25% contribution from the property owner.

Households with income levels between 60% and 80% of State Median Income Levels, may also be eligible for weatherization services under our targeted home program. Some owner cost sharing of this benefit may be applicable.

Weatherization Services*:

Weatherization services vary with each home, depending on home construction and condition.  A trained energy auditor visits homes to determine the energy improvements needed to make the home more energy efficient.  A crew of trained employees then make the needed improvements.

  • Sealing Bypasses
  • Insulating walls & attics
  • Replacing or Repairing & tuning up furnaces
  • Weatherstripping
  • Insulating water heaters, pipes & hot air ducts
  • Compact Florescent Light Bulbs

* Weatherization services do not include siding, roofing, or storm doors.


Funding

Funding for ADVOCAP Weatherization & Rehab Program are provided, in part, by grants from the Federal government, the State of Wisconsin's Public Benefits Program, Department of Administration, Division of Housing, and local private contributions.
