![]() FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM Enriching
the social and
remedial skills of
children by recruiting, training and supporting senior volunteers in local schools, childcare amd early childhood centers. Who
are ADVOCAP's Foster Grandparents?
ADVOCAP
Foster
Grandparents are men and
women age 60 and over, who enjoy working with children. The
Foster Grandparents help children develop healthy social
skills from personal demonstration, attention, and guidance. Each provides wisdom, experience, unhurried love and individual attention to special needs children. Foster Grandparents do not replace any other paid employees, they lend an extra hand and expertise to the classroom environment. The Foster Grandparent Program was established by the federal government to provide worthwhile employment for retired people on limited incomes. Each year ADVOCAP's Foster Grandparents serve over 33,000 hours and thousands of children in over twenty schools.
Research
shows that Foster Grandparents are a significant factor in the emotional,
physical and social growth of the children they work with.
