Community Employment Programs
Helping individuals with disabilities from Winnebago and Fond du Lac Counties obtain and maintain meaningful employment.

Supported Employment Services
ADVOCAP is proud to have the confidence of Fond du Lac and Winnebago County in providing supported employment for persons with developmental disabilities and individuals with chronic mental illness. This supported employment effort is based on the belief that every individual is capable of, and should be given the opportunity to perform meaningful work in the community. The Supported Employment Program affords ADVOCAP's Community Employment Programs the ability to see this mission become a reality for disabled individuals in the community.

The State of Wisconsin's self determination learning project coincides with the program model. ADVOCAP's employment specialists act as support facilitators in determining employment goals and lifestyles. The consumer, the family, and the support network associated with the consumer are instrumental in determining decisions for the individual.

The Supported Employment Program provides a variety of services related to employment activities.  The program has five primary functions.

Assessment

  • Discover participants interests and abilities.
  • Look at desired work environments as well as specific jobs.
  • Interview people with significant relationships to the consumer.
  • Develop a flexible employment plan.

Job Development

  • Create or modify a position to match a participants interests and abilities.
  • Plan for growth and maximum independence.
  • Discuss job coach fading and natural supports.

Job Coaching
  • Assist individuals with the support for an easy transition into the work place.
  • Provide task training and employer procedure training.
  • Assist with behavioral issues and conduct modification techniques.
Follow Up
Coordination of services necessary to maintain employment:
  • Plan consumer transportation
  • Meet changing employer needs
  • Identify changing participant needs
  • Coordinate services with other agencies
  • Fade job coaching services
  • Encourage and help to maintain good relationships with co-workers and supervisors
  • Help develop natural supports in the work place
  • Document progress and goals
Natural Supports
The Supported Employment Program helps and encourages consumers to forge natural supports on their jobs. Our goal is to have consumers utilize potential existing resources to the greatest extent possible in their work environments.
